As the National Eligibility
cum Entrance Test (NEET) has been decommissioned now, the state of Goa
is reviving the Goa Common Entrance Test (GCET) for admission into
various professional
degree courses in the fields of dentistry, engineering, homeopathy, medicine and pharmacy.
According to confirmed reports, the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) has decided to conduct the GCET 2014 on May 7 and 8 next year.
Goa Common Entrance Test to Return in May.It is worth mentioning here that in 2013, Goa had opted for the CBSE’s NEET for admission into all of its government medical colleges, and later decided to join the central test for admission into engineering colleges as well. However, the plans had to be redrawn after the Supreme Court of India had quashed the legitimacy of the NEET as the only central examination for admission into medical or engineering colleges.
“With NEET no more the single entry to medicine and dentistry courses, it does not make much sense for Goa to hold multiple processes for admissions to different professional courses, so we have decided to go with the admission system that was applicable in 2012, which is through GCET. The state may only consider changing the admission system if NEET is made the single entrance exam to medical and dentistry colleges again by the Supreme Court. As of now we are going with GCET,” a DTE official said, the Times of India reports.
More than 3,500 students had appeared in the GCET before the entrance test was replaced by the NEET in 2013. It is an objective multiple choice examination with each individual paper sporting 75 question carrying one mark each. There is no negative marking for wrong answers.
